The fire happened yesterday morning. National Police agents were called by CIMACC room 091, since according to calls received, heavy smoke was coming from the sixth floor of a building. When officers arrived at the scene, a thick column of smoke was visible from a distance of three hundred meters.

Once there, officers climbed the stairs to the sixth floor, where the source of the smoke was located. From inside the burned house one could hear the voice of a woman asking for help shouting, saying he couldn’t find the keys to the front door and couldn’t open it.

Officers entered another home on the same floor in an attempt to gain access to the burning home through the interior patio, but again this was impossible due to the large amount of smoke. In the meantime The rest of the houses on the sixth floor were evacuated and the three dwellings on the seventh and top floor.

The police officers who were trying to open the door of the house at the center of the fire no longer heard the voices of the woman asking for help and, faced with the urgency of the situation, they used a battering ram of the police to try to break down the door. After several attempts, the officers managed to open the door by tearing it from the frame.

There was no access to the interior of the house, as the smoke made visibility and breathing completely impossible. Firefighters who arrived at the scene entered the house with self-contained breathing apparatus and, after about a minute, came out with a woman in their arms and took her to the public road. The victim was an elderly woman who firefighters found unconscious. in the living room of the house, with the house keys in hand.

The firefighters extinguished the fire, determining the origin in a cupboard in a gallery that overlooked the Paseo de San Vicente, without the house showing any damage due to the flames, but with considerable damage due to the thick smoke.

Local police teams blocked the street due to the risk of debris falling onto the public highway during the extinguishing work. The woman, after being intubated, was urgently transferred to the University Clinical Hospital, with a serious prognosis. Although the officers suffered smoke inhalation during the rescue, they did not initially require medical assistance.
