It’s already on Netflix and it’s the new romantic series everyone is talking about. A comedy with endearing characters starring two former youth stars Kristen BellVéronique Mars) And Adam Brody (The O.C.). Ten chapters of 30 minutes each also created by the actress. Erin Fosterwhich is based on her own personal experience when she met her husband. It is about Nobody wants that and it’s a festival for any millennial loaded with jokes for an entire generation. The plot brings together the creator of a podcast sexual with a Jewish man recently separated from his girlfriend. The series has become, in a few days, one of the most watched content on Netflix and it is thanks to a story which is based above all on the magnetism and alchemy between its two protagonists. It’s not a perfect series (it gets pretty darn predictable and there are overly obvious dialogues and situations) but it’s the classic fast-moving consumer product that is loved and forgotten as soon as it’s seen. For the record, let’s say that three different endings were shot before choosing the finale. Another question is whether the chosen outcome was the most appropriate.
The story of Nobody wants that It’s simple. Joanne, an agnostic woman who doesn’t mince her words about sex (she runs a podcast on the subject with her sister), she meets, during a dinner at a friend’s house, Noah, a despised and very non-conformist rabbi. They both immediately connect and start dating, knowing that those around him will not look favorably on the fact that he fell in love with a non-Jewish woman.

Neither the plot nor its development is new but Nobody wants that stands out for several reasons. Firstly, the short chapter format gives it a decent and enjoyable pace. The production design, cinematography and soundtrack are functional within the independent American and make the experience enjoyable to watch. But if this fiction stands out for anything, it is for its two protagonists. The chemistry between Kristen Bell and Adam Brody is not only undeniable, but they make you fall in love with them even though their character arc is linear and predictable.
Bell, whom we met in this cult play for young people entitled Véronique Mars and this culminated in giving the voice to Princess Anne in Frozen and in the Netflix black comedy The right placeexudes charisma thug hilarious. Brody (idol from the beginning of the century thanks to the series The O.C.) is charming, which makes his rabbi not hate him even in the most irritating moments.
The worst: predictability and lack of courage
A priori we can begin to see Nobody wants that as a sort of derivative of Sex in New York focused on the millennials and with an eye on Woody Allen and his Jewish references. Neither. The main problem with this series is that it appears to be more transgressive than it is. More irony and unpredictability are missing. However, we end the ten chapters with an enormous feeling of already seen and having followed a restricted textbook of topics on romantic comedies. There are situations there that are excessively forced by disastrous plot mechanisms (the quote in the sex shopwhat is happening in the Jewish camp…) who turn their back on what could have been a more innovative product.
