“We are living through one of the most dangerous moments in the modern history of the Middle East”

The professor of international relations, Pedro Rodríguez, declared in Más Vale Tarde that “this is not an exaggeration, we live one of the most dangerous moments in modern Middle Eastern history“His comments come amid growing tensions in the region, exacerbated by the recent launch of more than 500 projectiles, including long-range ballistic missiles, by Iran. These missiles, capable of covering distances of up to 1,000 kilometers, crucially targets Mossad’s headquarters in Tel Aviv and two Israeli air bases in the Negev desert.

Rodríguez underlines the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing that the recent disappearance of Hezbollah has left Iran without deterrence capacity. “When an offensive of this magnitude is launched, it is obvious that escalation is imminent”he declares. Although Iran’s responses have been limited on several occasions, the expert warns that this time it could provoke direct intervention by the United States, which has expressed its intention to act to defend Israel.

“The root of the problem lies in Iran’s nuclear program”adds Rodríguez, suggesting that possible US military action could prolong the conflict in the region.
