The “worst DANA of the century” has now arrived Castellón. The catastrophic cold fall that hit the province of Valencia and which has so far caused 95 deaths in the region, has moved to the northern province of the community. The images show the flooded streetswith cars traveling with difficulty on the road and rivers on the verge of overflow.

The Valencian Generalitat has activated an alert through the Emergency Coordination Center. The emergency service sent “a new Es-Alert notice”, through a cell phone message, “to inform residents throughout the province of Castellón”.

“Given the episode of heavy rain, it is requested that stay at home in high areas and if they are outside, take shelter in high points. “It is requested not to travel on the roads as agreed by CECOPI,” states the notification received by all residents of the province of Castellón.

In turn, the Castellón City Council decreed “the suspension of teaching activity at all levels of education. They did it “to prevent possible mobility problems” because they feared “an episode of rain”. “All municipal facilities located outside are also closed,” the council states.

“We have just learned at 9:55 a.m. today, October 31, that AEMET has decreed a red alert level on the south coast of Castellón,” indicates the municipality team in an official press release published on its networks social. “It is recommended to avoid any movement that is not extraordinarily urgent,” reads the official letter.

In any case, they asked for “the calm of the population” because they believe that “the city presents no imminent danger”. “We ask that hoaxes do not spread and that all information is followed through official communication channels and institutional social networks,” concludes the Town Hall.

So far, 102 deaths

Regional health emergency services confirmed this Wednesday that they had found 102 dead bodies following the “worst DANA of the century”. Official sources have estimated that the number of deaths due to the cold fall could reach 150. This Thursday, those responsible for the search, with Mazón in the lead, continue, especially in cities like Chiva and Paiporta, among the most affected, in which the clearance work has not yet been completed.

This Thursday morning, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will visit the site. First of all, the socialist leader planned a visit to the Integrated Operational Coordination Center, from where emergency interventions in the areas affected by DANA are coordinated. He will then make an institutional statement in which he will report on the evolution of the tragic situation in Valencia. Later, at 4 p.m., he returns to the La Moncloa complex to the Crisis Committee to monitor the effects of DANA.

The head of the regional government, Carlos Mazón, announced this Thursday aid of 250 million euros for those affected by DANA. The Valencian president confirmed from the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI) of the Valencian Community a first point which will be approved next Tuesday through a first decree. This aid will be “direct and without bureaucracy”.
