a Palestinian walking through the West Bank

This Tuesday, the massive missile attack launched by Iran against Israel left only one person dead: a Palestinian worker which was located in the West Bank. The victim, Samih Asaliwas a 37-year-old man from Gaza who was walking near Jericho when he was hit by the remnants of an Iranian missile, according to local sources.

Iran launched around 180 missiles in retaliation for the recent killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Israeli airstrikes. Tensions in the region have increased since the killings, and Tehran responded with a massive assault that activated Israel’s air defense systems.

Jericho Governor Hussein Hamayel confirmed that Samih Asali died after being hit by fragments of one of the Iranian missiles. According to reports The time of IsraelAsali, a father of three and a worker living in the Gaza Strip, had sought refuge in the West Bank with thousands of other Palestinians after being caught up in the conflict while working on a work permit in Israel. So far, Asali’s death is the only one confirmed to be a direct result of the Iranian missile barrage.

Social media echoed the event, and several videos and images showed missile fragments in various parts of the West Bank, particularly in areas near Ramallah, where local people came to touch and photograph the remains.

An attack intercepted

Most of the missiles launched by Iran were intercepted by Israeli and American air defense systems. The telegraph reported that Israel’s Iron Dome, along with US destroyers positioned in the Mediterranean, played a crucial role in neutralizing the bulk of the Iranian threat. Nevertheless, some projectiles managed to penetrate the defensescausing damage in various regions of Israel and in some areas of the West Bank, as in the case of Asali’s death.

The Israeli military said the Iranian attack was “significant.” Military spokesman Daniel Hagari warned that “there will be consequences” for Iran and that Israel will respond “at a time and place of our choosing.” Meanwhile, residents of Israel and the West Bank have been urged to stay near air raid shelters due to the possibility of further attacks.

The Iranian attack has further escalated tensions not only between Iran and Israel, but also across the region. Jordanwhich was also hit by missile fragments, reported material damage in several of its provinces and at least two people injured, according to a statement from the Jordanian Interior Ministry.

The attack also sparked criticism of Tehran in Arab sectors, where some social media users They accuse Iran of killing and injuring only Sunni Muslims.while its missiles did not cause significant losses in Israel. This same criticism was made during a previous attack in April, where a seven-year-old Bedouin girl was the only one injured by an Iranian attack.
