The Czech Republic blocked a European Union statement calling for an immediate truce in Lebanon. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic on October 1.
The reason for this measure was that the EU declaration “unilaterally limited Israel’s right to self-defense against Hezbollah terrorists. Therefore, the European Union was unable to issue a unified statement on the escalation of the conflict.
The position of the Czech Republic forced the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell Express your own position.
“We deplore the numerous civilian casualties in Lebanon, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and the associated long-term consequences, as well as the large number of internally displaced people on both sides, and reiterate our call for continued respect for international humanitarian law. … The guns must now be silent and the voice of diplomacy must speak so that everyone can hear it.” – said.
Let us remember that the conflict in the Middle East entered a new phase after the Israeli army began bombing Lebanon. It was later learned that a ground operation had begun.
