The month of September ended with the addition of 8,805 contributors to Social Security, a slight increase (+0.04%) which leaves the total number of average affiliates at 21,198,206. In a month in which employment and unemployment tend to increase Due to the start of the school year and the end of the tourist season, SEPE offices counted 2.57 million unemployed, or 3.3164 more than in August (+0.12%).
In monthly terms (September to August), the education sector gained nearly 50,000 new workersafter an increase of 4.83%; In addition, compared to last year, there are 94,425 more employees in this activity (+9.55%), partly due to the change in registration, since they previously appeared in Public Administrations. The other sector that has increased is administrative activities and auxiliary services, which added 24,007 new contributors (+1.64%).
On the contrary, the definitive end of the summer period led to the loss of 41,640 jobs in commerce (-1.57%) and 30,348 in the hotel industry (-1.85%). However, in both cases there are increases – of almost 2% and 4%, respectively – compared to the previous year.
In interannual terms, Spain had in the ninth month of the year 473,411 more members than a year ago (+2.3%), which represents the best month of September in the historic series. Although it did not reach 21.2 million on average, the Ministry of Social Security indicates that the daily series exceeded this figure from September 10 to 30.
Indeed, according to seasonally adjusted data – without taking into account the calendar effect – Social Security gained 22,220 affiliates in September and the total amounts to 21,220,899 contributors. According to this series, So far this year, Spain has added 377,963 employees and 1.86 million since before the pandemic.
No more unemployment
On the unemployment side, SEPE offices registered 3,164 additional unemployed people than in August (+0.12%). In this way, the total number of unemployed was in the order of 2,575,285 peoplethe lowest figure for a month of September since 2007.
Furthermore, Over the past 12 months, unemployment fell by 147,183 people (-5.41%).
Compared to the previous month, registered unemployment recorded its biggest drop in construction, with 4,856 fewer unemployed people (-2.40%). Instead, increased in serviceswhere 4,352 unemployed people were added (+0.24%) and, above all, in the group without previous employmentwhich recorded an increase of 6,549 people (+2.79%).
Compared to the same month of the previous year, it is in the services sector that the greatest reduction in unemployment is recorded, with 97,943 fewer unemployed; next comes agriculture, with nearly 14,000 fewer unemployed; industry, with 13,430 people; and construction, with 12,484 fewer people.
