The Baku Initiative Group congratulated the Kanak people.

The “Report” reports that the Baku Initiative Group congratulated the Kanak people on the occasion of forcing Macron’s government to back down due to their great sacrifices in the fight for freedom.

The greeting says:

“As is known, peaceful protests have been taking place in New Caledonia for several months as a sign of protest against French colonialism, as well as against the serious violation of the rights and freedoms of the Kanak people by the Macron government.

As a result of these actions, French security forces killed more than 10 civilians and hundreds of people were arrested. At the same time, the main figures of the FLNKS, the liberation front of the Kanak people, especially the leader of the movement, Christian Thein, were illegally detained and transferred to Lyon. Baku Initiative Group has supported the families of these political prisoners from day one and will continue to support them.

Macron’s government, which finally realized that it cannot silence peaceful protests by shooting at the local population, was forced to back down before the Kanak people. For the first time since the Noumea agreement signed between the French government and the FLNKS in 1998, the French side has committed to meeting a series of demands of the Kanak people.

After New Caledonia, a wave of protests in other colonies and its rapid expansion forced the French government to make the following concessions:

– From now on, colonial issues will be dealt with directly by the Prime Minister and not by the Minister of Overseas Territories;

– The presidents of the French National Assembly and Senate will soon visit New Caledonia with the aim of establishing a dialogue;

– an inter-ministerial delegation formed by the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Overseas Territories will negotiate with New Caledonia (previously they refused to dialogue with the Kanak people);

– Based on the agreement with the Head of State, the provincial elections in New Caledonia, scheduled for the end of 2024, are postponed until the end of 2025. The chambers of the French Parliament will decide on this;

– The constitutional law approved in May 2024 on the illegal increase of the electorate in New Caledonia will not be put to a vote in the French Congress. The head of state of France will officially announce it in November.

This means that the French government will no longer be able to grant voting rights to immigrants it has intentionally relocated to New Caledonia.

“The Baku Initiative Group believes that the struggle for freedom of the Kanak people will end with the achievement of independence, which is the main demand of the local population.”
