The community called on the United States to support the return of deported Azerbaijanis to Armenia

The West Azerbaijani Community (WAC) called on the US government to support the return of deported Azerbaijanis to Armenia.

Oku.Az reports that this was stated in a statement issued by the community.

The statement notes that the community condemns the reference to the violation of human rights and humanitarian rights in “Nagorno-Karabakh” by Daphne Rand, US assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor issues, who spoke in the Human Dimension of the OSCE. Conference.

It was highlighted that in Azerbaijan there is no region called “Nagorno-Karabakh”:

“The US official’s use of this term associated with occupation and separatism is disrespectful to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Second, while Azerbaijan was restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty, no violations of the human rights or humanitarian rights in the Karabakh region. The refusal of integration of ethnic Armenians into Azerbaijani society is considered a violation of rights and is completely unacceptable.

Furthermore, it was stated that in the context of decades in which the United States turned a blind eye to the massive violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis as a result of Armenia’s ethnic cleansing and military aggression, these statements are clear evidence of the Discrimination against Azerbaijanis based on their ethnicity and religion:

“More than 300,000 Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia during the last deportation are still unable to return to their homes. More than 700,000 Azerbaijanis expelled from the former occupied Azerbaijani lands have not been able to return in thirty years.

Although those areas were freed from occupation, former internally displaced people found it difficult to return to their homes due to Armenia’s destruction of those areas and the laying of millions of mines in them. “We call on the United States government to end discrimination against Azerbaijanis, stop attempting to reignite conflict in the region, and support the return of deported Azerbaijanis to Armenia.”
