After two months of works, this Saturday the section of the M-607 motorway in Colmenar Viejo will be reopened to traffic, at kilometer point 37.6. Since July 1, the road was closed at this point due to rehabilitation works on the railway bridge.
The regional government has invested nearly 500,000 euros in the renovation of the viaduct structure. This road, owned by the region, is crossed by nearly 15,000 vehicles every day.
In order to cause the least possible damage to neighbors and road users, the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure decided to undertake these works during the summer, when the number of trips is reduced. The tasks consisted of reinforcing the roadway and placing new support devices, including nine beams. In addition, the bridge was demolished and a new one was built, increasing its cross section and solving the narrowing it had at the entrances.
Likewise, other structural elements such as the abutments were repaired and the containment systems were updated and anti-vandalism screens were installed, after one of the periodic inspections carried out by the General Directorate of Roads detected cracks, chips and corrosion in the armor, in addition to wire breaks in the prestressing cables.
On the other hand, this Saturday, the MetroSur section between Espartales and Juan de la Cierva stations also returns to service, closed since March 1 due to the works to connect suburban line 12 with the capital through the extension of line 3 to El Casar.
These works forced the closure of the section between the Juan de la Cierva and Los Espartales stations. With the progress of the works, on March 22, the section between Los Espartales and El Casar was reopened. And this Saturday, the section that continues without service between El Casar and Juan de la Cierva will reopen, so the service will be provided normally on the entire suburban line 12. During the entire suspension period, those affected have benefited from a special replacement bus service, at no additional cost.
