The second vice-president and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, was willing to discuss the reduction of the working day with the Popular Party and sees the evolution of the negotiation with the employers with “optimism”.
“I think that, for once, the Popular Party does what he must do in a democracy, which is to say fully enter into a timeless debateand, of course, we will discuss or negotiate, but that is what the People’s Party must do,” the vice president said in an interview with Telecincocollected by Europe Press.
Although Díaz did not want to reveal his conversations, he admitted to speaking with the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, as well as other political leaders. “I have normal relations, except with Vox, with all the leaders of the political parties. And what’s more, I believe that this is democracy,” he stressed.
In this sense, believes that all political groups must participate in this debate on the reduction of working hours. “It seems great to me that Mr. Feijóo, for the first time since he was president of the Popular Party, beyond the internal debates that he will have to resolve, understands that whoever wants to govern Spain must make an effort useful politically,” he said. celebrated the minister.
Díaz recalled that the Ministry of Labor launched a proposal at the social dialogue table to support small businesses in the country so that they can achieve this reduction in working time, because, although three million employees have already reduced their working day, there are some sectors and companies that still do not do this.
“I know very well, as Minister of Labor, that there are key sectors, such as commerce, where a person who has a small business, a small activity, has more difficulty reducing their hours to 37 hours and a half,” she admitted. .
This is why he appreciated that proposals were made at the social dialogue table. “Last week, the employers seemed, for a long time, to be open to these discussions,” underlined the minister, after being “optimistic” about the negotiation.
