“He is a friend of peace”

Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares expressed his rejection of Israel’s decision to declarer ‘persona non grata’ to the Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres.

Albares came to his defense, stressing that it was “a good friend from Spain” and a “friend of peace”. They thus clearly expressed their opposition to the decision taken by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to ban him from entering the country.

A measure they took arguing that Guterres did not condemn “unequivocally” he missile attack launched by Iran and that, therefore, “he does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil.”

Israel Katz, Israeli Foreign Minister, called Guterres “an anti-Israeli secretary general who supports terrorists, rapists and murderers”, categories in which he includes Hamas, Hezbollah, the Yemeni Houthis and Iran, ultimately responsible for “terrorism”. “He will be remembered as a stain on the history of the UN,” he concluded in a statement. Words that Albares described as “slander.”

During his interview on Al Rojo Vivo, the Foreign Minister admitted to having spoken with his Iranian counterpart, revealing that what he had told him was that he “I didn’t want any confrontationo”, but that he had to support his related groups in Lebanon.

A moment which Albares took advantage of to emphasize once again that the time has come to begin “de-escalation and containment”.
