The judge of the Murcia minor sexual exploitation network calls the victims to consult them on the suspension of sentences

The Murcia Provincial Court held a hearing on Wednesday with some of the victims of the network of sexual exploitation of minors for which a group of pimps and the seven businessmen – 13 convicted in total – tried on September 11 abused the girls and ten years ago.

This is not the first meeting they have with those affected, in recent days they have already had other meetings with the eleven victims, as learned from elDiario.es Murcia Region. At the time of the events, the girls were between 15 and 17 years old.

Of the maximum sentence of 24 to 56 years they face, they will ultimately be sentenced to between five months and two years for each of the crimes. Regarding compensation, the accused must pay 500 to 2,000 euros per victim. Added to this are the fines, which vary between 450 and 720 euros.

The defendants reached an agreement to reduce the prison sentences and avoid a trial, in exchange they admitted the facts. Among the arguments in favor of a reduced sentence was the mitigation of unjustified delays.

Feminist human rights groups and associations have gathered several times in recent days in front of the Palace of Justice, in the capital of Murcia, to protest against the agreement reached with the businessmen and to demand that it be revised so that they do so. this is not the end – businessmen and pimps – to avoid prison.

This Sunday, October 6, another gathering is planned. The next two days, Monday and Tuesday, are scheduled for hearings to resolve the matter.

In his speech presenting the report of the public prosecutor’s office of the last judicial year, the Attorney General of Murcia highlighted the importance of “getting out of impunity” and did not exclude in his latest statements asking that those involved in the plot are imprisoned.

According to what the mother of some of the victims told the newspaper La Opinión de Murcia, the judge in charge of investigating the case received her daughter cordially these days: “Very kind, she gave her two kisses and hugged her. Then they asked him questions. And according to his testimony, he questioned the girls about whether they wanted the sentences suspended or “for judges to decide whether they wanted them to serve prison time.”

“I called the court and they told me we didn’t have to go.”

“After seeing the case on television, I called the court and they told me that we no longer had to go there,” recalled the mother of one of the victims in an interview with elDiario .es Region of Murcia. According to this woman, the prosecution never consulted the victims on the agreement they would find with the defense, where the mitigating circumstance of “very nuanced” deadlines was applied.

Judicial sources clarified that the prosecution has no obligation to consult the victim about the agreements: “Neither here nor in any procedure are the victims called to listen to them. They are only summoned to appear in court and testify in cases of non-compliance.
