Interior highlights its commitment to avoiding fraud

The problems posed by asylum seekers seeking protection during their stopover in Barajas have caused Government intervention to prevent the collapse of facilities before the arrival of citizens from different African countries, including Mauritania, Senegal, Kenya and Morocco. In some cases, transit visas have been put in place to prevent fraud during a stop in Madrid.

Precisely the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaskaassured yesterday during the press conference after the Council of Ministers that they maintained a “communication, coordination and permanent cooperation” with the UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to study “individually” each Sahrawi asylum request, “if applicable” the recognition of international protection or, failing that, authorize expulsions.

“The resolution which is issued is the resolution which is understood from the point of view of the strict application of international law and humanitarian law with regard to the fact of being or not a creditor of international protection, in accordance with the Convention of Geneva,” said Grande-Marlaska. .

Specifically, they asked him about the UNHCR’s recommendations to Spain to allow the entry of citizens of Sahrawi origin instead of attempting to expel them. As he did last week, Grande-Marlaska stressed that the decision adopted by the Government concerning the Sahrawis of Barajas is executed with the “final and definitive protection of the Judicial Power“, since it is a judge who ultimately endorses the resolution approved by the Ministry of the Interior.

We work on each case individually.it is carefully studied and resolved. And we cannot forget that there is also the action of the judiciary, which, where appropriate, also resolves and reviews any resolution issued,” he indicated.

According to Interior data from this Monday, In Barajas there are a total of 115 asylum seekers, 73 of whom come from Moroccoalthough none went on hunger strike.
