The last solar eclipse of the year has begun

Today the last solar eclipse of 2024 began.

Oku.Az reports that the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi informed the Ministry of Science and Education.

The solar eclipse will begin at 19:42 Baku time and end at 01:47. The maximum of the eclipse corresponds to 10:45 p.m. The maximum eclipse will last 7 minutes and 24 seconds.

This eclipse is an annular solar eclipse. An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon is at its apogee (maximum distance from Earth) and nearby points. At this time, the visible size of the Moon’s disk is reduced, so it cannot completely cover the Sun, and a thin ring of light remains at the edge of the Moon’s disk.

Although the eclipse falls primarily in the Pacific Ocean, it also covers South America, southern North America, the Atlantic Ocean and Antarctica. It is possible to observe the annular eclipse from Chile and Argentina.

It should be noted that the eclipse is not observed from Azerbaijan.
