Iranian missiles penetrated IDF air defense system – Der Spiegel

According to information published in the German publication Der Spiegel, Iranian missiles managed to overcome the Israeli multi-level air defense system.

This attack proved to be much more successful than previous attempts, as Iran was able to attack Israeli military targets. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that Iran used for the first time a new hypersonic ballistic missile called Fattah-1.

As sources note, this was a major “achievement for Iran,” which has long been in confrontation with Israel.

It is noted that the alleged use of the latest missile made it possible to break through the IDF defensive lines and demonstrated “the enhanced capabilities of Iranian weapons.”

Let us remember that, according to the expert, Iran’s attack on Israel, which occurred on October 1, radically changed the situation in the region and raised alarm about a possible expansion of the conflict.

According to Igor Tyshkevich, a leading Russia expert at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, these Iranian actions were a response to Israeli attacks on targets in Lebanon. As a result, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a massive missile attack on Israeli territory.

Tyszkiewicz notes that some 400 ballistic missiles were fired, marking the first time in decades that Israel suffered damage to major targets, despite the operation of the Iron Dome air defense system.

The expert believes that this escalation will inevitably provoke Israeli retaliation, which could lead to a full-blown war between Iran and Israel. It also notes that the previous regional security system, based on tacit agreements, no longer applies and the parties act without restrictions.

Tyszkiewicz emphasizes the risk of the conflict expanding, given the lack of a common border between Iran and Israel. This could force other countries to intervene to conduct ground operations. While Iran can count on support from Islamic countries, Israel is likely to turn to the United States and its European partners for help.

Furthermore, the expert suggests that the incident could derail the US plan to create an alliance between Türkiye, Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Iraq will be in a difficult position, forced to choose between supporting the United States or Iran, which could lead to a new round of conflict between Iran and Iraq.

Economic and geopolitical cooperation projects, such as the North-South transport corridor through India, Iran, the Caucasus and Russia, could also be suspended. According to Tyszkiewicz, India and Scandinavia may refuse to interact with Iran in the face of rising tensions.

In the Caucasus, the situation could also worsen: Turkey’s possible intervention in the conflict would increase pressure on Armenia and could change the political landscape in the region, especially in Armenia, where the consequences could be significant.

Previously, Cursor wrote about whether an Iranian attack would affect the war in Ukraine.

The topic of the Russian-Ukrainian war, according to the expert, will temporarily disappear from the covers of world publications.
