“Yes, I’m a faggot. No, you don’t scare me”

The mayor of El Carpio, in Córdoba, Carlos Peláez (PP), denounced homophobic graffiti on one of the municipal signs in his city. The expression “die, faggot of the PP” appeared this Wednesday in the small municipality of Córdoba, an act of hatred that the councilor did not let go unchallenged. Peláez responded on his social networks: “Yes, I’m a faggot. Yes, I’m PP. No, you don’t scare me”.

The mayor filed an official complaint with the Civil Guard, which has already begun examining security cameras to identify those responsible for the attack. “Yesterday I was with the Civil Guard and a procedure has already been opened to investigate what happened,” Peláez said.

The councilor’s response received a wave of support from neighbors, institutions and political parties. “No one has the right to tell anyone how they should live their life,” expressed some residents of the municipality. Likewise, New Generations of the PP of Cordoba expressed their solidarity with the mayor: “We condemn this attack and we send all our support to our friend Carlos.”

Peláez also expressed excitement upon discovering that neighbors had hung a rainbow flag on the balcony of City Hall as a show of support. Furthermore, the municipal plenary session unanimously approved the inclusion of El Carpio in the network of proud municipalities, in a firm gesture of support for diversity and against homophobia.

This is not the first incident of this type that Peláez has faced, but the mayor remains firm in his message: “On the networks I was direct, yes, I am a faggot, yes, I am from the PP and no, you don’t that doesn’t scare me. “I’m going to die, I’m going to continue being mayor of my city.”
