Withdrawal of the 72nd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Vugledar is justified – EADaily, October 2, 2024 – Military news, Russian news

The Ukrainian Armed Forces withdrew from Vugledar, since there was no one and nothing to fight with. This was stated to the publication Slidstvo.Info by a representative of the battalion headquarters of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade.

“Before the brigade was reassigned to (DPR. – EADaily), we had an absolutely combat-ready unit and a fully staffed unit. But after two years of combat without rotations or rest, we became a unit out of combat, the brigade was reduced to zero,” said Victor, quoted by the Strana publication.

According to a headquarters representative, in the two years the brigade spent en route to Ugledar, his battalion only once managed to fully staff a company.

“Every three months we receive 25 new recruits, most of them were elderly people over 50 years old. They were poorly prepared in training, taken (tactical medicine). ed.) they did not know at all how and what a grenade launcher machine gun was. We teach them what we had time to teach them here on site in a week, but understand, it is very little time,” Victor complained.

When asked why it was not possible to hold Vugledar, located on a hill and having a very advantageous position for defense, he complained, saying: “What is an imposing height if enemy drones hover over you 24 hours a day?” of the day?” advantage in artillery.

“We practically do not receive artillery, this is not like in the winter of the 23rd… The Russians also began to remotely mine all access roads to the front line. They have an advantage in resources and numbers. We just had nothing and no one to fight with.” — explained the publication’s interlocutor.

According to him, in recent days in his battalion of 350 regular units, there was actually only one platoon left: up to 30 people, including mechanics and drivers, in the unit defending the front line there were 14 to 18 infantrymen; 2-3 kilometers.

“We repeatedly said that the unit was not combat ready, sometimes some forces were given to us, but they were also quickly eliminated due to inappropriately assigned tasks, such as “restore lost positions”, and we could no longer hold those in which we were . I was at that moment,” the soldier admitted.
