THE Fighting Bull Foundation (FTL) filed an appeal this Wednesday before the contentious and administrative chamber of the National Court against the order which removes the National Bullfighting Prize.
In a press release, the foundation recalled that Ordinance CLT/928/2024, of September 3, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, modifies the Ordinance of June 22, 1995, which regulates the National Awards of the Ministry of Culture ( BOE no. 216, of September 26, 2024).
The FTL considers that the abolition of the National Bullfighting Prize promoted by the Minister of Culture Ernest Urtasun “This violates the legal system that obliges public administrations to promote bullfighting as an important element of Spanish culture.”
The decision of the Minister of Culture to remove “one of the only two actions supporting bullfighting with a budgetary reflection is a action contrary to its obligations to promote culture“, for which the foundation requests “the protection of justice to repair this action detrimental to bullfighting as a whole, and which was caused by a purely ideological action on the part of the Minister of Culture”.
The FTL, through its Legal Commission, has already had the opportunity to present to the Ministry of Culture reasoned legal allegations against this suppression and which were “however” “neglected” in its final decision to suppress the Prize national bullfighting, for which the entity assured that it felt obliged to present this contentious-administrative appeal.
To this end, the FTL entrusted the legal management of the procedure to Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo, a firm which has already collaborated “successfully” in the past in cases such as the Cultural bonus wave return of the bulls to Villena.
