On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, one of the most powerful explosions of the current period of activity occurred on the Sun. On October 2, an “X7.1” class explosion was recorded in sunspot group No. 3842 and lasted 31 minutes.
Oku.AzAccording to TASS, this was reported by the Russian Institute of Applied Geophysics.
It is said to be the second most powerful explosion of the current solar cycle, which began in December 2019. A stronger event occurred only once: on May 14, 2024 (class “X8.7”).
The last event occurred in the center of the solar disk, which maximizes its impact on our planet. As a result of the explosion, a stream of charged particles headed towards our planet. It is expected to reach Earth between Thursday and Friday night.
Please note that solar flares are divided into 5 classes depending on the power of X-ray radiation: “A”, “B”, “C”, “M” and “X”. The minimum class “A0.0” corresponds to a radiation of 10 nanowatts per square meter in Earth orbit. Power increases 10 times during the transition to the next class.
