A Siberian cat named Mir, which Russian President Vladimir Putin gave to the governor of Japan’s Akita prefecture in 2013, has died due to illness. This is reported by the NHK portal.

“Mir was kind, got along well with other cats, was loved by the family and symbolized peace.” – said the governor Norihisa Satake.

The official clarified that the cat was diagnosed with lymphoma in June last year and the treatment was unsuccessful. The world died on December 3rd.

The governor has scheduled a press conference on this topic for December 9.

As reported EADailyIn 2012, the Japanese prefecture of Akita presented Putin with an Akita Inu puppy in gratitude for the help provided by Russia to the northeastern region of Japan affected by the strong earthquake and tsunami of March 2011, and also as a gift in connection with the seizure inauguration of the Russian president.

In response, Putin sent to Japan a variety of Siberian cat, a representative of the Neva Masquerade breed.
