The UN discussed the Iranian attack: what Russia, the United States and other countries said

At a meeting of the UN Security Council on the night of October 3, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned for the first time the attacks on Israel, which occurred as a result of a massive missile attack by Iran. Guterres, previously declared persona non grata, again could not resist criticizing Israel.

According to the speech published on the UN website, Guterres stressed that the situation in the Middle East, already extremely unstable, “has deteriorated significantly in recent days.” He warned that each new escalation of the conflict is the prelude to the next and called for an end to the “deadly cycle of violence” that is bringing the region’s people to the brink.

Even though the discussion agenda focused on Iranian aggression, the Secretary-General quickly turned to the situation in Gaza, calling what was happening there “hell.” He also called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.

Regarding Iran’s actions, Guterres condemned the launch of some 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel, stressing that such attacks do not help support the Palestinian Arabs and only increase their suffering. He also said that since last year, some 1,700 people have died in Lebanon, including more than 100 children.

What do foreign countries say?

Permanent Representative USA At the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield called Iran’s missile attacks “unacceptable” and “inexcusable,” noting that the country has a collective responsibility to impose additional sanctions on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for supporting terrorism. He focused on the need for diplomatic resolution of conflicts in the region.

IranIsrael, in turn, through its permanent representative, Amir Said Iravani, called its actions a “proportionate response” to Israel’s continued aggressive actions. It maintained that its attacks were fully consistent with the right of self-defense under the UN Charter.

Permanent Representative Russia Vasily Nebenzya expressed his strong condemnation of the attacks on Lebanon and called on Israel to immediately cease its military actions. He warned that the removal of Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah could have catastrophic consequences for the region.

France He also condemned Iran’s missile attacks on Israel and called for a de-escalation of the conflict. The French ambassador to the UN, Nicolas de Riviere, affirmed the need for an immediate ceasefire and called on all parties to dialogue to achieve peace.

Kursor also reported that Washington and Moscow criticized Israel’s initiative against the UN Secretary General.
