The regulation of rent prices in Catalonia is producing its first effects. This was announced by the Minister of Territory of the Generalitat, Sílvia Paneque, who announced that in the first six months of its application there was a decrease of between 3% and 5% in the average monthly payment paid by the tenants.
While waiting to offer all the data, which Territorio says it will present next week, Paneque gave some details just before starting the Sectoral Conference on Housing and the Urban Agenda, which brings together in Madrid the regional officials responsible for this area with the Minister of Urban Planning. branch, Isabel Rodríguez.
Rent regulations came into force in Catalonia in March 2024, based on the Housing Law approved by Congress. Since then, the rule prevents landlords from increasing the monthly payments paid by tenants in towns that declare themselves under tension, and which in the community number 271, where 90% of the population lives.
“We are talking about 3 to 5%, but that is already decreasing. We are seeing some effect,” Paneque said. “This is two quarters of data, which we need to evaluate and continue to study, but there is already data that indicates that there could be good results,” he added.
