Murcia, Valencia, Andalusia and Castile-La Mancha, at the top of underfinancing according to Fedea

A recent study by the Foundation for Applied Economic Studies (Fedea) revealed the insufficient resources faced by autonomous communities of Murcia, Valencian Community, Andalusia and Castile-La Mancha. On the other hand, the report positions Catalonia and Madrid in line with the national average of financing per capita adjusted, while La Rioja, Cantabria and the Balearic Islands stand out as the communities with the greatest number of resources according to this criterion.

This analysis was presented at a key moment, within the framework of discussions on the reform of the regional financing system, in particular after the economic consultation agreement in Catalonia between the PSC and the ERC for the investiture of Salvador Illa.

The Fedea report reveals that, if we look at the adjusted per capita financing, which includes effective financing and extraordinary transfers from the State, Murcia (91.4 euros) and the Valencian Community (92.4 euros) position themselves as the most affected by underfinancing. Andalusia (95 euros) and Castile-La Mancha (95.3 euros) are also below the national average. These four regions have expressed their intention to request a leveling fund allowing them to be on par with the rest of the communities. while the reform of the financing system is carried out.

For their part, both Madrid (100 euros) and Catalonia (100.8 euros) are within the national average, which stands at 100 euros per adjusted inhabitant. At the other extreme, La Rioja (116.1 euros), Cantabria (115.9 euros) and the Balearic Islands (114 euros) are the communities that receive the most resources. Among the communities with adequate funding are also Galicia (102.3 euros), Asturias (103.4 euros), Aragon (104.5 euros), Canary Islands (109.1 euros), Extremadura (112.3 euros) and Castile and León (105.8 euros).

This report highlights the need to combat inequalities in regional funding and highlights the concerns of historically less favored regions in this area.
