six children from the city of Beniganim (Valencia) were hospitalized at Lluís Alcanyís Hospital due to possible food poisoning. He the protocol is already activated and there are 20 children who present the symptoms and have need help due to vomiting and/or diarrhea.
In recent hours, Education has been aware of the communication of the hospitalization of five students of the two-year class (out of a total of 12). According to this department, medical tests have identified that the symptoms are caused by bacteria (Enteropathogenic E. coli) and a parasite (Giardia lamblia) and it is suspected that the cause could be “a poor food handling“.
According to sources from the Ministry of Health, while waiting for the samples taken by health technicians to be analyzed origin cannot be known nor if it is food poisoning, although the symptoms presented by the minors are compatible with this possibility.
This can only be confirmed with the results of the cultures carried out on the samples taken. In all, 20 minors were treated at the Benigànim Health Center and at the Xàtiva Hospital with symptoms of vomiting and/or diarrhea, six of whom were admitted and they remain hospitalized.
After assisting around twenty children for vomiting and/or diarrhea between the two centers, the General Directorate of Public Health applied the corresponding protocol to know its origin.
The Ministry of Education indicated that the Escoleta de Beniganimlocated in the Vall d’Albaida, welcomes children from zero to six years old in concerted educational regime for the age group of three to six years, while the watch out for the little ones (0 to 3) is private.
Currently, the Health Inspectorate is conducting an investigation assessment at the educational center “to ensure the health and safety of all students” and a visit of the Education Inspector in the center throughout the morning.
