Belarus and Azerbaijan are not friends against third countries, but do their work in the name of the interests of the people of the two states. This was announced by Alexander Lukashenko today, October 3, at a meeting with the head of the government of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov.

“Despite all kinds of ups and downs in the international arena, in our relations, Belarus and Azerbaijan, you and my friend, my very friend and brother Ilham Heydarovich (President of Azerbaijan) Ilham AliyevEADaily) you should know that in relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan there are no closed issues. At the same time, we do not violate any norms of international law, we are not friends of third countries, we do our work on behalf of our people.” – said.

The President of Belarus noted that warm relations between the two countries have developed since the time of Heydar Aliyev’s leadership in Azerbaijan.

“We were very friendly, we always found mutual understanding and support. And I often say to Ilham Heydarovich, the current president: thank God we have managed to maintain the level of relations that we had with his father… Therefore, you are welcome to Belarus. You are a person close to us, you represent a very close country,” added Aleksandr Lukashenko. The President noted that Azerbaijan is one of the closest countries to Belarus along with Russia,” – said Lukashenko.

He also highlighted the need to implement the agreements reached between the parties during his state visit to Azerbaijan in May 2024. This issue, as the President of Belarus said, was discussed the day before with the Prime Minister of the Republic. Roman Golovchenko with emphasis on the economic aspects of bilateral relations.

“There are no problems. All he said was, “It would be better if it was faster.” It is good that in the government the Prime Minister understands that today we have to go faster, faster, because time is like that… Yes, as a result of today’s visit and his stay in Belarus, we find the opportunity to accelerate , we will definitely accelerate. We, as presidents, will not interfere with you, we will not prevent this.” – assured the Belarusian leader.

In addition, Lukashenko also drew attention to the existence of mutual support between Belarus and Azerbaijan on international platforms.

“We have no problems, we support each other, we have supported each other and we will continue to support each other. I am very grateful to the government of Azerbaijan and the president for the tremendous support they provide us… Our relations are a good interweaving of interstate and personal relations. Our personal relationships are woven into the fabric of interstate relations, and this contributes to the level we have in terms of relationships. Tell us what we can do for Azerbaijan, we will do everything. This has been the case until now and will continue to be this way. I trust that Azerbaijan will do everything it can for us. Because it’s always been that way.” – he emphasized.

For his part, Ali Asadov appreciated the opportunity to meet and conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to Alexander Lukashenko. He also stressed that friendly relations have historically developed between Belarus and Azerbaijan, to which the President of Azerbaijan attaches special importance. It is also important that good relations have been developed at the level of country leaders.

“We, the members of governments, are obliged and with great pleasure to fulfill the task entrusted to us by our leaders.” – said the Prime Minister.

He recalled that after the state visit of the President of Belarus to Azerbaijan in May this year, the Heads of State established a series of tasks for the governments, which now serve as a roadmap for joint work.

“We came to Belarus with a large delegation,” – noted Asadov.

The Prime Minister also, on behalf of the President of Azerbaijan, renewed the invitation to Alexander Lukashenko to attend the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in November this year. in Baku.

“We attach special importance to your personal participation, which will give this conference a special status,” – Ali Asadov stressed.

In response, Lukashenko stated that “if Ilham speaks, we will.”
