The majestic hiking route that crosses one of the oldest dams in Spain: it is located in Aragon

Another alternative to the Escuriza footbridges route in Aragon

The other route starts at Alloza and it’s 8 kilometers away. You can do it entirely on foot from the city or shorten it by doing it by vehicle. The last section is the one that gives access to the Escuriza or Congosto reservoir dam, just one kilometer long and with a slope of 65 meters. In this one you will walk combining dirt roads with footbridges. Just before starting it you will find an information board.

The reservoir was accessed by old footbridges made in their time with sheets of dynamite barrels that they used for their construction. In about 700 meters, this path divides into two: on the right, it reaches the base of the dam (about 44 meters high) and the water intake mechanisms and on the left, it climbs to the top of the reservoir.

This active reservoir is the the oldest in the Ebro basin and it was one of the first to be built in Spain. The floods and the need to regulate the waters led to the first studies being carried out at the beginning of the 19th century to build a dam in this area. This was not carried out until 1877.
