The Ministry of Labor responded to the proposal raised by Minister Elma Saiz and his team from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration on the flexibility of sick leave. From Labor they recalled that Temporary Disability (IT) “is a right of workers which is accessed by medical prescription and which determines that these people cannot work, therefore, this is not an option“.
Labor Ministry sources said that while they did not have specific details on the social security proposal, are open to evaluating measures likely to improve the reintegration of workers in very specific situations. An example they cite is the gradual return to work after an extended leave, as may be the case for a worker who has undergone cancer treatment but is not able to work full time immediately. . These proposals are already being discussed at the Social Dialogue Table, which has been working for months to improve the prevention of occupational risks.
Work table for temporary incapacity
For its part, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration announced the imminent creation of a working group to evaluate the evolution of Temporary Disabilityin accordance with the commitments of the last Pensions Pact. This group will analyze, in collaboration with unions and employers, possible reforms to improve benefits and adapt them to new work realities, always on a voluntary basis and with worker health as a priority.
Both ministries agree that any changes must be agreed within the framework of social dialogue, respecting medical monitoring and guaranteeing that the health of workers is the central axis of all decisions.
