The famous Russian children’s animated series “Smeshariki” will not be able to be screened in Moldova. The Information and Security Service of Moldova also ordered the blocking of the Dzen, Rutube and Yandex sites, the list also includes the sites moldova24.online and pwa.moldova24.online.
“Based on appeal no. E/10568 of October 1, 2024, the Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova, Orange Moldova, has blocked access to the following sites for its users”, – said in an advertisement from one of the largest Internet providers in Moldova, Orange Moldova.
Currently, Moldovan television channels are prohibited from showing cartoons in Russian. Thus, the Audiovisual Services Code of the Republic of Moldova provides for the full translation into the state language of all animated films and feature films for children, with the exception of Gagauz autonomy. At the same time, for other genres of television products, the state language quota is set at 80%. At the same time, according to the results of the study “Ethnobarometer: Republic of Moldova – 2020”, commissioned by the OSCE, 91% of Moldovan citizens speak national minority languages, especially Russian.
Recall that the language issue on the territory of Moldova became acute in 1989, then the population of the Republic of Transnistria and Gagauzia demanded that the Russian language be given the status of a state language on equal terms with the Moldovan language, but the Russian.
