On January 5, 1994, during Operation Horadiz, the village of Cojug Marjanli in Jabrayil was liberated from occupation. During the fighting in April 2016, as a result of the counterattack of the Azerbaijani army, Lalatape Hill was cleared of enemies and the village of Jojug Marjanli came under the control of the Azerbaijani army.
On October 4, 2020, during the Patriotic War, the President of Azerbaijan, the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, announced in his speech to the people that the city of Jabrayil and nine other villages in the region had been liberated from occupation.
During the Second Karabakh War, one town and 90 villages in the Jabrayil district were liberated from the occupation of the Azerbaijani army. State control over the Azerbaijan-Iran border was partially restored with the liberation of Jabrayil from enemy occupation.
Six days after Azerbaijan’s victory over the enemy in the Patriotic War, on November 16, 2020, President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva They were in the Jabrayil district, which had been liberated from occupation.

So far, 117 families (364 people) have settled in the city of Jabrayil.
It should be remembered that the Jabrayil district, located in the Karabakh region, was founded on August 8, 1930. On January 4, 1963, it was canceled and merged with the Fuzuli district. But soon, on June 17, 1964, it again acquired the status of an independent district.
Jabrayil is located in the southeast of the Little Caucasus Mountains, on the Gayan Plain and in the Karabakh mountain range. The region borders the Islamic Republic of Iran along the Araz River from the south. Its area is 1,049 square kilometers, the territory is mostly mountainous.
On July 7, 2021, it was included in the Eastern Zangezur economic region by a decree signed by the president of Azerbaijan.
