Russia and Israel maintain security ties amid the current escalation in the Middle East. Anna Ukolova, representative of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), told Izvestia this way.
“I can confirm that there are diplomatic and security contacts between Israel and the Russian Federation. Including the situation in the Middle East”, — Ukolova pointed out.
He also stressed that the Israeli army’s limited operation in southern Lebanon, which began on October 1, is not aimed at harming civilians.
“The IDF operation is directed against the terrorist organization Hezbollah and its infrastructure. We have no intention of endangering civilians. But it is important to remember that Hezbollah uses civilian sites and private homes to hide its warehouses and weapons. We warn the Lebanese every day which areas are dangerous to be in.” – noted the IDF representative.
Currently, 60 Russian citizens have been evacuated from Beirut. According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, all of them are members of families of diplomatic workers serving in Lebanon.
