Four years have passed since the first missile attack on Ganja: an unforgettable tragedy

Four years have passed since the first rocket attack by the Armenian armed forces against the city of Ganja during the Second Karabakh War.

Oku.Az recalls that during the 44 days of the Patriotic War, the city of Ganja was subject to rocket attacks by the Armenian armed forces at different times. The first rocket attack took place on the morning of October 4, 2020.

On the same day, around 10 a.m., rockets fired by Armenians hit a civilian settlement, a two-story building where residents and private houses live.

As a result of the enemy’s shelling of Ganja, one civilian, Tunar Goshgar oglu Aliyev, was martyred and 32 civilians were injured. In addition to residential houses, civil infrastructure and old historical buildings were also damaged.

This missile attack by Armenia was the first serious attack outside the war-torn Karabakh region.

Following the incident, Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev issued a statement. In the statement, he said that according to the fact mentioned in the preliminary investigation, sufficient evidence was gathered that Arayik Harutyunyan, the head of the separatist regime in Karabakh, committed acts aimed at deliberately killing civilians and creating panic among the people in direct violation of the requirements of the Geneva Convention.

“Therefore, I have charged Arayik Arutyunyan with the Penal Code of Azerbaijan under articles 100.1, 100.2 (Planning, preparing, initiating or waging a war of aggression), 116.0.1, 116.0.6, 116.0.7, 116.0 .8-1 (International humanitarian aid during an armed conflict) violation of legal norms), 117.2 (Giving criminal orders during an armed conflict), 120.2.1, 120.2.4, 120.2.12 (Intentional homicide), 186.3 (Intentional destruction of property), 214.2. 1, 214.2.3 (Terrorism), “Criminal proceedings have been initiated under articles 218.3 (Creation of a criminal group (organization)) and 279.3 (Creation of armed groups not provided for by law) and the investigation has been assigned to the Investigation Department of the Attorney General’s Office,” the chief prosecutor said in his statement.

It should be noted that during the Second Karabakh War, the Armenian armed forces attacked the city of Ganja five times (October 4, 5, 8, 11, 17) with rockets and heavy artillery. As a result, 26 people died, 175 were injured, civilian infrastructure located in the city and vehicles were seriously damaged.

It should be recalled that in the Second Karabakh War, as a result of Armenia’s military aggression, 93 civilians were killed, including 12 children and 27 women, 454 civilians were injured, 12,292 residential and non-residential areas, 288 vehicles were destroyed. damaged, 1,018 the fact of damage to the property was discovered.
