Israel continued to bomb Lebanon this morning, in an escalation of violence that continues to grow. This evening, the Israeli army again attacked the capital, Beirut, with the supposed aim of killing what is likely to be the new leader of Hezbollah, Hashem Safieddine, according to international media such as The Guardian. Just a week ago, Israel also killed former militia leader Hasan Nasrallah.
This is not the only attack launched by Israel against the region in recent hours. At least 18 people were killed and several injured in an Israeli airstrike on the Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The Palestinian Wafa news agency also reported that Israeli planes bombed a cafeteria, killing five civilians in the attack.
The Israeli military later reported that the target of the attack on the Tulkarem refugee camp was a Hamas leader whom it managed to kill.
The Palestinian agency assured, for its part, that a missile hit a popular cafe located in Al Hamam alley, in the Tulkarem refugee camp.
Last year, Israel killed 720 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 160 minors, according to the Health Ministry. In Tulkarem alone, at least 94 Palestinians have died since January, including eight minors aged 15 and 17, according to EFE monitoring. However, the majority of them died from soldiers’ gunfire and more than 30 died from airstrikes, a tactic Israel has not used in West Bank towns and refugee camps since the second Intifada, twenty years ago.
