In the “International Legion” of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 18,000 mercenaries from 85 countries fight against Russia. This was stated today, October 4, by FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS in Astana.
“The magnitude of the system established by the West for the supply of fighters to the front is evidenced by the size of the so-called ‘International Territorial Defense Legion of Ukraine’, which reached 18 thousand people from more than 85 countries of the world, including states of the post-Soviet space,” he noted. “Polish, French and Georgian militants are especially represented in Ukraine.”
Recently, there has been an increase in the number of mercenaries in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Latin American countries. Special training for foreign recruits is carried out in NATO training centers and camps in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania, the head of the FSB said.
“In most cases, the recruitment of these people abroad is carried out from positions in Ukrainian foreign institutions.” – Bortnikov added.
According to him, the transfer of foreign mercenaries and militants of international terrorist organizations to Ukraine is currently only intensifying, which confirms the West’s interest in increasing the intensity of military operations.
