López Miras believes an agreement can be reached

The head of the Executive of Murcia, Fernando Lopez Mirassaid he had the “impression” after the meeting with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, that there could be a national agreement on immigration based on “equal solidarity of all territories” in the reception of unaccompanied foreign minors (menas) and in the “provision of means to take care of them with dignity” by the State. A few words that the Government valued and appreciated because they came from a senior leader of the PP.

This is how the Murcian president spoke during the press conference following the bilateral meeting he held this Friday with Sánchez at the Moncloa Palacein which, as he revealed, he devoted much of his dialogue to talking about regional funding.

However, during the meeting they also spoke about immigration “from the perspective of solidarity, equality and also the resources that the State must provide.” “Unaccompanied minors arrive in the Region of Murcia, which we welcome in conditions of dignity,” said the Murcian president, who stressed that these minors arrive “both by sea and by boat, as we can see in the media. and through the agreements we have signed with the Canary Islands and with Ceuta”.

Likewise, he pointed out that there are adults “who arrive from other regions of Spain, notably from the Canary Islands, by the Spanish government.” “And when they arrive in the Region of Murcia, we can verify that they are minors and we also welcome them,” he said. In short, this represents “a cost of more than 11 million euros for this year alone” and he regretted, however, that the Spanish government “only finances those of us who signed the agreement with the Canary Islands or with Ceuta, with little 850,000 euros.” So, López Miras asked Sánchez for a budget to accommodate unaccompanied foreign minors in “conditions of dignity.”

According to him, “an agreement could be found” on immigration, but he stressed that this is based on his “perception” after the meeting with Sánchez. “I think we are not very far from agreeing on the need for equal solidarity in terms of reception in all territories and that there must also be an increase in funding from the Spanish government so that these minors can be taken care of in conditions of dignity,” he concluded.

Minister Torres: “I see the light again”

The Minister of Territorial Policy and head of the Interministerial Migration Commission, Angel Victor Torreswanted, “valorize, highlight and also emphasize” these words of the president of the Region of Murciabasically because he is a leader of the PP.

Torres stressed that it was “a message from someone who knows well what the migratory phenomenon is, who lives in a community where boats and cayucos arrive”, and said that he hoped May this message reach those who feel distant. to reach an agreement, “among them also the People’s Party”. “Today I see the light again because I heard an institutional representative of the People’s Party defending that we reach an agreement,” he stressed.

The minister stated that The question of immigration and in particular of minors “requires a mandatory response of solidarity” and fair from all territories” and guaranteed the government’s willingness to provide “the necessary resources” for the “extraordinary response” which is required at this time.
