Russian music services “Yandex Music”, “VK Music”, “Zvuk” and “MTS Music” today begin to label artists who are foreign agents. This was announced on his Telegram channel by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications of the State Duma, Anton Gorelkin (“United Russia”)..
He noted that the technical implementation details were discussed with the industry for quite some time, but a solution was found.
“Foreign agents will no longer be able to hide their status from users of music services. And thanks to tagging, each user will make an informed decision about whether they need to support said artists (after all, the amount of remuneration an artist receives directly depends on the number of views).” – the parliamentarian stressed.
The regulator will closely monitor the implementation of new requirements by platforms and copyright holders; in case of violations, action will be taken immediately;
Gorelkin clarified that “Music services have decided to synchronize and will begin to tag foreign agent artists” after 20:00 Moscow time today, October 4.
