Did you get a slap from von der Leyen for telling the truth? — EADaily — News from Moldova. Moldova. Moldova. News from Moldova. Moldova News. Elections in Moldova. Elections in Moldova 2024. News from Moldova today.

Former President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, addressed the EU ambassador in Chisinau, Janis Mažeix, urging him to speak specifically about his recent statement on the sale of land to foreigners.

The leader of the Socialist Party drew attention to the fact that the diplomat said one thing, but after the uproar he began to deny his own words.

“Mr. Mazeix, with all due respect, but one day you say one thing about selling land to foreigners, and another day another. You correctly said that in the EU there are no restrictions on the sale of land to foreigners. Any country that becomes a member of the European Union must liberalize the land market. Every state went through this, even if some were given a transition period of 3 years, 7 years, 11 years… Last week you called a spade a spade and apparently received a “cap” of Maia Sandu or of Ursula von der Leyenthat will arrive in Moldova next week, and now you say “that’s not entirely true…””, – said Dodon.

He also demanded that the Mazheiks say clearly: yes or no, asking why these “choices”.

Recall that initially Janis Mazeiks confirmed that the issue of the sale of land to foreign citizens is one of the aspects that will be discussed during the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. He explained that in the European Union there is free movement of capital and any citizen of an EU Member State can buy everything they need in any other EU Member State. He added that the sale of land to foreigners could be a positive factor for the Republic of Moldova, “since it has many villages, abandoned or with little population, and in the case of the sale of land to foreigners, economic activity is will intensify. there.”

Then Mazheiks began to say that they had misunderstood him. It turns out that he was referring to the practice of some European countries and the decisions of the governments of those countries, and in the EU there is no law requiring the sale of land.

The head of the European Union delegation claims that his statement was distorted and served as the basis for a series of disinformation spread in the public space.

“Many of these conversations do not come from Moldova, but from Russia, and I think it is important to understand that this discussion is taking place here, not only because it is important to guarantee the national interests of the Republic of Moldova, but also because it is being used for Russia”, — Jānis Mažeiks traditionally changed his emphasis.

As reported EADaily Moldovan presidential candidate of Our Party Renato Usatii He believes that permission to sell Moldovan lands to foreigners should not be allowed. The guarantee of this measure should be the inclusion of this norm in the Constitution so that it cannot be modified except through a popular referendum.
