Edmundo González proclaims himself “president-elect” and asks for help from Spain to carry out his position

The Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo González declared himself this Friday elected president of his countrybecause he emphasizes that the polls and a good part of the international community approve of him and has asked for help from Spain to assert his position and respect popular sovereignty.

He further appealed to the “Moncloa Pacts of the Spanish transition to democracy as an example for regain institutional normality in your country.

González highlighted the value of governance agreements signed in Venezuela in 1958, which “ensured a climate of broad political and economic freedoms”, during an intervention in the La Toja Forumwhich takes place in the town of Pontevedra, O Grove.

“They had a frame of reference for the design of the Moncloa Pact of 1977, or to provide support, in the case of Peppersince 1990, the experience of democratic consultation. “We Venezuelans would like to feel nothing less at this moment and, therefore, that in retaliation our Ibero-American community can provide support energetically and effectively so that our country can return to institutional normality “, he noted.

He further insisted that His departure from the country is “temporary”highlighting his current role as “spokesperson and manager of all actions and efforts aimed at stimulating Spanish solidarity, and by extension the rest of Europe, with the Venezuelan democratic cause”.

“I do it with all the responsibility that my character as elected president gives me, recognized by millions of Venezuelans, eight million to be exact, and by a good part of the international community,” González said.

After emphasizing that his task is “complex and demanding”, he wanted to emphasize that almost three months after the presidential elections in the country, “the world knows and recognizes the original minutes”: “Because we showed them transparently.”

González denounced that in exchange, the response from Nicolas Maduro’s “regime” “There has been an alarming toll of deaths, persecutions, political prisoners, both among young cadres and among the main leaders of the opposition, such as Maria Colina Machado, something to which no people in the world can be indifferent. »

There are not two Venezuelas, there is only one. The Democrat, supported by millions of votes obtained on July 28. There is no dilemma. What we want, what we aspire to, is to leave behind personalism and improvisation, as well as intolerance and the unbridled persecution of other Venezuelans,” he stressed.

For González, “it is about recovering institutionality and rediscovering the value of dialogue and coexistence to contribute to the rapid reconstruction of the image of our country.”

“All this also means normalizing diplomatic relations and reactivating cooperation agreements that range from investment promotion to the fight against drugs, in response, in the latter case, to the permissive behaviors that the Maduro regime has encouraged in this country ” he said.
