His crimes shocked a society after kill and rape two policewomen on an internship in the Barcelona town of Bellvitge, 20 years ago now. This is Pedro Jiménez who did it while on leave from prison. Of course, in the few days he was out of prison, he committed other crimes.
It was a fire on the seventh floor of the building which appears in the images above which raised the alarm. The police arrived, but they found something they didn’t expect. Were the lifeless bodies of two women. They were “each in a different room”, tied “by the ankles, hands and neck”, as well as “gagged to prevent them from screaming”, said one of the investigators during the trial.
Jiménez had brutally raped, tortured and stabbed Aurora and Silvia, 23 and 28 years old, both police trainees. In order to get rid of the evidence, his killer set the house on fire and began searching for the culprit of the double crime.
A knife and bloody sneakers were found in the toilet tank of a Barcelona cafeteria, while the prints of these sports shoes were found at the crime scene. They also found traces of DNA on a belt buckle, as well as on the bodies of the victims.
Additionally, investigators found a phone bill with a name on it. This corresponded to Pedro Jiméneza 35-year-old man convicted of other offenses and who was on good behavior leave at the time. After 55 hours he was arrested in Girona. He was there hidden in a cabin which belonged to a former prison companion.
Jiménez faced two trials. One was held without a jury and the judge sentenced him to 84 years in prison. In the other, there was a people’s court which sentenced him to 94 years. Even though the reports were clear in establishing that he was a psychopath, the convict defended his innocence.
He was first arrested when he was 16 and since then he strings sentences together one after the other. In just 40 days off in his entire life, he racked up robberies, five rapes and attempted sexual assaults. Added to this are the murders of Aurora and Silvia. These actions put him back behind bars.
