The White House administration hopes that the Israeli-Lebanese conflict, which has already weakened the Hezbollah movement, will create the conditions for the election of a new Lebanese president in the near future.

In Washington they believe that after the death of the movement’s general secretary, Sheikh Hassan Nasrullah, as a result of an Israeli attack, this can be fully realized.
Furthermore, the White House considers the election of a new head of state more important and urgent than the resolution of the conflict with Israel.
In particular, the US special representative for Israel, Amos Hoxtin, said in a conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati that due to the intensification of military operations, the diplomatic way to resolve the conflict proposed by Washington in the summer. Therefore, the government of the country should focus on the election of the president. Mikati will also serve as head of state starting in October 2022. Lebanon’s top government post remains vacant after General Michel Aoun left the presidential palace at the end of his six-year term.
