In the Shelabolikha district of Altaisky, a dam broke, which led to the destruction of the road between two parts of the regional center – the city of Shelabolikha.
As reported by the head of the district, Alexander Shushunov, on his Telegram channel, this emergency occurred today, October 5.
“The dams that have held water in the Mirror Lakes for years, despite all efforts to strengthen them, have today failed to contain the large volume of water that has accumulated this rainy summer. And as a result, all the water flowed into the riverbed that divides Shelabolikha,” the statement said.
There is no information on victims. District authorities report that the emergency is under the control of the government of the Altai Territory, which intends to assess the damage and, together with regional structures, develop measures to quickly eliminate the dam break.
Shushunov called on citizens to maintain restraint and calm, stay a safe distance from the washed out road and “not spread rumors.”
Previously EADaily reported that in July in the city of Karabash, Chelyabinsk region, the Kialimsky reservoir dam broke. The destruction of the dam occurred due to a sharp rise in water level due to prolonged rains.
