Montero compares Catalonia’s single financing to that of the Canary and Balearic Islands

The month of August is coming to an end and the new political course opens as the previous one ended: with an emphasis on the “Catalan quota”The PSOE gave the signal to leave with the help of the general secretary of the PSOE in Andalusia, Juan Espadasand the Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, First Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Finance, Maria Jesus Monterowho once again defended the agreement reached between the socialists and the ERC to invest Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat, with which Catalonia will have a single financing.

During his speech at an event held in Seville on the occasion of the Andalusian socialist inter-parliamentary meeting that opens the new political cycle, Montero wanted to clarify that the aforementioned pact between the PSOE and the ERC “This makes it possible to have a single financing in Catalonia, as other autonomous communities may have.”

The PSOE’s “number two” set an example Canary Islands and Balearic Islands and disfigured those parties which ““the clothes are not torn” when a single funding has been approved for these two communities. “We must make compatible what is common with what is particular to each territory and this has always existed, but even today Spain is said to be breaking“, Montero said during his speech.

The Minister of Finance assured that the agreement with the ERC includes aspects included in the autonomy statutes and is based on “self-government and solidarity“. That is why, in the face of criticism that the agreement is being criticized – many of which come from the Socialist Party itself – Montero has tried to shake off the criticism and warned of the “erroneous mental frameworks that they are trying to transfer” from the opposition.

“This is the pact based on a text that no one has read and everyone has given their opinion. I hear things that are not in this agreement, with usual interpretations to confront and destroy,” lamented the socialist leader.

In reference to the PP, whose leaders he repeatedly mentioned in his speech, Montero stressed that there are “interested interpretations” of the agreement “by the usual ones, whom they just want to confront to overthrow” the coalition government.

The first vice-president of the government accused the opposition of trying to generate “noise confrontation, tension and confrontation“from the rest of Spain with Catalonia, an autonomous community that they “use to confront” to transfer a “territorial grievance.”

Faced with the “noise” of the “right and the extreme right”, Montero expressly invited to read the agreement, because, as he defended, “what it speaks of is the vocation of self-government which envisage the statutes of autonomy and solidarity”; which led him to emphasize that “the majority of statutes” of autonomy “integrate elements of expectations” concerning greater governmental autonomy.

The Minister of Finance insisted on reading the agreement and the “economic parts” of the autonomy statutes, because it shows “identical” aspects in economic matters between the territories and “especially with Catalonia.” And he expressed the will of the government of Pedro Sánchez to “to deepen greater doses of “government autonomy” in the autonomies.
