private jets, expensive, very bad for the planet and tax-free

Private jets are the talk of the town. This is the case for three reasons. Because they are expensive. Because what’s more, they assume that youa big problem for the planet. And because ultimately, they are excluding taxes.

And, starting with the first of the questions, renting one of these devices, in one of the most economical models, costs around 8,000 euros.

Regarding the environmental impact, the experts are clear. “They broadcast on average ten times more than a commercial flightand 50 times more than making the same trip by train”, explains Carlos López de la Ossa, specialist in sustainable aviation.

In Spain, around 50 million would be collected

In addition, they do not pay taxes for this, and this is what Cristina Arjona, mobility coordinator at Greenpeace, points out: “We are demanding a tax on kerosene.”

It is estimated that, if taxes were paid, around 50 million euros would be collected in Spain for private jets, common in our country. They land here almost a quarter of planes of this type flying over Europe throughout the year.

And it’s not for business, because the holiday period increases significantly. “They are used for vacations and leisure,” says Arjona.

That of Elon Musk, 80 million

Elon Musk owns one of these private jets. The “toy” of one of the greatest fortunes on the planet costs 80 million euros… and is tax free. “It is a social injustice that a user of a private jet pays less taxes to travel from Madrid to New York than a person who puts 20 euros in their car,” concludes López de la Ossa.
