NATO plans to form fifty new brigades – Die Welt

The leadership of the NATO military bloc plans to form 49 additional combat brigades with about 5,000 soldiers each, apparently to protect against Russia.

This is reported by the German publication Die Welt, citing still unpublished documents from the North Atlantic Alliance.

If these plans are implemented, the total number of NATO troops will reach 131 brigades, although previously it was assumed that 82 brigades would be enough for the alliance. The number of “combat corps” is now expected to increase from 6 to 15, and the number of division headquarters from 24 to 38.

The military bloc also plans to increase the number of air defense units fivefold: from 293 to 1,467. They will be equipped with the Patriot, Iris T-SLM and Skyranger systems. In addition, it is planned to increase the number of helicopters from 90 to 104.

Let us remember that the former Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg He complained that NATO’s European members are inferior to Russia in military potential. To correct this situation, EU states must significantly increase defense spending.

Previously EADaily reported that the former Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg filed a lawsuit, accusing them of provoking a conflict in Ukraine.
