Monumental blow to Minister Marlaska during a Civil Guard concert in Mérida

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaskatook this Saturday a monumental whistle filled with loud boos in Mérida, during a concert of the musical unit of the Civil Guard programmed as part of the events for the patroness of Benemérita, the Virgen del Pilar, whose feast day takes place on October 12.

Marlaska, questioned by the professional organizations of the Civil Guard and the National Police, and harshly criticized by the opposition, felt this Saturday in Mérida the massive rejection of those who went to the Antique Theater from the city to attend this concert, in which the orchestra of the National Republican Guard of Portugal and musicians from the Official Conservatory of Mérida and the Pilar Vizcaíno Music School also participated.

At 8 p.m., at the start of the event, Grande-Marlaska appeared surrounded by authorities and members of her security service. The boos began as soon as the minister appeared in the Roman theater. And, at the end of the event, the reaction was repeated: a huge whistle and boos against the minister.

This Saturday’s event is the prelude to the celebration of the central event of the patron saint of the Civil Guard which will take place this Sunday in Mérida. There will be a military parade and parade, in which troops belonging to the different units and specialties of the Civil Guard will participate on foot, on horseback and in motorized vehicles. The parade will take place at noon on Paseo de Roma, in the administrative capital of Extremadura, and an hour later the parade will start on José Fernández López Avenue.

Sunday’s event will bring together, in addition to the Socialist Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the President of the Government of Extremadura, María Guardiola (PP); the Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez; the president of the Assembly of Extremadura, Blanca Martín; the general director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González; the delegate of the Government of Extremadura, José Luis Quintana; and the mayor of Mérida, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna, among other authorities.

Marlaska was repeatedly disapproved by the Cortes Generales. Both Congress and the Senate have passed motions that disapprove of the minister’s management due to the scarcity of resources and the lack of effective management to provide the National Police and the Civil Guard with the operational capacity necessary to carry out their tasks.
