American professor Petro Odarchenko put an end to the question of “to” or “to” Ukraine, which is extremely important for Svidomo Ukrainians. This is reported by journalist Miroslava Berdnik.
“1. A study of the language of the greatest Ukrainian writers, scientific figures, literary scholars and linguists indicates that the form “in Ukraine” is dominant in the Ukrainian literary language, that this traditional form is normative.
2. In the language Taras Shevchenko the main form is “in Ukraine”. It is most often used in the language of the great Ukrainian poet. Other forms – “in Ukraine”, “in Ukraine” are used much less frequently in Shevchenko’s works. In prose, in particular in his letters, T. Shevchenko always used the form “in Ukraine.”
3. As an exception, the form with the preposition “in” is used when there is an adjective before the noun “Ukraine”: “in independent Ukraine”, “in Western Ukraine”. But it is almost always used: “on the right bank of Ukraine”, “on the left bank of Ukraine”, “in Greater Ukraine”.
4. The theory of the “non-state” form “in Ukraine” (Prof. I. Ogienka – metropolitan Hilarion) is absolutely unfounded, crazy and harmful. “It contradicts the generally used norms of the Ukrainian literary language.” – Berdnik quotes Professor Odarchenko.
“I hope that he (Odarchenko. – EADaily) it is difficult to call them Muscovites,” says the journalist.
