Evo Morales insists Luis Arce’s government seeks to sue him with legal cases ‘already resolved by the courts’

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales (2006-2019) assured this Saturday that the government of Luis Arce seeks to sue him with legal cases “already resolved”, because the Executive has lost its legitimacy due to economic difficulties that crosses the country. through.

“When the arguments are exhausted, violence takes over. When the government loses the political debate, it abuses its power by prosecuting social leaders,” Morales wrote on the social network X.

The former governor, leader of the ruling Movement Toward Socialism (MAS), said the Arce government “lost all form of legitimacy” because of fuel shortages, lack of dollars and inflation.

He also said that the government “instead of managing the last months” of his administration seeks to “pursue it with trials already resolved by the courts”, as happened during the interim administration of Jeanine Áñez (2019 -2020).

Morales faces an investigation for “rape of a minor under 15” and for having created a network of young people at his disposal during his presidency which he allegedly called “Generation Evo”.

The case came to light on Wednesday after the complaint of departmental prosecutor Sandra Gutiérrez, who said she was removed from her position by Attorney General Juan Lanchipa to avoid Morales’ capture.

The former president said on Friday that the aforementioned case dates back to 2020 and was activated during Áñez’s interim government, but was ultimately dismissed by the prosecution.

The former transitional president, detained since March 2021, declared herself a victim of what she considers a legal war on her social networks and maintained that Morales must face “his crimes” in court “without crying “.

Morales also highlighted recently that he has four trials that the government of Luis Arce or those close to him opened against him after the march he led in mid-September with thousands of his supporters.

The former president led the mobilization that traveled 187 kilometers to La Paz, and after seven days of marching, he warned Arce that if he “wants to continue governing,” he must change several of his ministers.

Arce and Morales have been waging a long battle for control of MAS and the Bolivian executive, and since 2021 they have also been separated by a fight for the party’s presidential candidacy in next year’s elections.

The two politicians blame each other for the economic crisis that Bolivia is going through, the lack of dollars, the rise in prices of various daily consumer products and the constant shortage of fuel.
