EU fills its gas tanks to 95% and exceeds its 90% target by November 1

THE European Union managed to fill your gas tanks at 95% before November 1stthus exceeding the legally binding objective of 90% capacity set in the regulation on gas storage to guarantee the security of supply and the market stability during the winter months.

The June gas storage regulation 2022 set a binding EU target of filling 90% of storage facilities by 1 November each year, with intermediate objectives for EU countries to ensure constant filling throughout the year.

According to the latest figures published by Gas infrastructure Europebefore the November 1 deadline, the current level of gas storage across the EU exceeds 95%.

There are currently some 100,000 million cubic meters of gas stored in the EU, which represents approximately a third of the EU’s annual gas consumption.

In this regard, the Kadri Simson, Energy Commissionerrecalled that “when Russia invaded Ukraine and tried to blackmail Europe with its energy supplies”, the EU took “swift” action to protect itself against future supply crises.

East work that is now “bearing fruit” and this will allow us to count this winter on a “healthy” level of gas stored throughout Europe, diversified energy supplies, a higher percentage of energy renewable and a renewed commitment to energy efficiency and the energy saving.
