Israel bombs Beirut in one of largest attacks ever

Early this Sunday morning, Israeli aircraft launched more than thirty bombings against different points in the Beirut suburb of Dahye, which experienced its “most violent” night in a year of conflict, according to the National Security Agency. Lebanese press (ANN).

“The southern suburbs of Beirut recorded its most violent night since the beginning of the aggression, being the target of more than 30 attacks whose echo was heard in Beirut and whose black smoke covered all the suburbs,” indicates state media.

The bombings hit at least five different residential neighborhoods in Dahye, as well as a gas station located on the road that connects the capital to Rafic Hariri International Airport, the only operational one in the country and where flights have been limited for weeks. .

For its part, the Israeli army confirmed the launch of a series of nighttime attacks near the city, where it claims to have hit “ammunition warehouses and other terrorist infrastructures”, according to a military statement.

Last week, its warplanes and drones daily bombarded Dahye, a major stronghold of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah that had been largely spared attacks during almost the entire conflict that began between the sides in October 2023.

However, as part of the sharp escalation launched by Israel since mid-September, numerous bombings and attacks have been described as “selective” by Israel against the leaders of Hezbollah, such as the one that killed its secretary general Hasan Nasrallah there a week ago.

At the same time, Israeli forces engaged in ground fighting on Lebanese territory, in areas adjacent to the border where they recognized nine soldiers dead, and continued an intense bombing campaign against the south and east of the country, which are also bastions of power. Shiite group.
