Israeli army launches new incursion into northern Gaza

After a night of intense bombardment on northern Gaza, the Israeli army launched a new operation in the Jabalia region, surrounding it and sending additional troops. According to a press release, the objective of this new offensive is to dismantle the “terrorist” infrastructure of Hamas, which is trying to “rebuild its capabilities” in Jabalia.

The city has been severely punished since the war began almost a year ago. The northern Gaza Strip was the first objective of the Israeli army when it began its assault on Gaza and, although it destroyed entire towns and possibilities of life in the northern part, it did not failed to put an end to the presence of the Islamist group.

In addition to the attacks against the north, Israeli aircraft bombed a mosque and a school in the center of the Gaza Strip, leaving at least 24 dead and nearly a hundred injured, according to local authorities. The attacked buildings served as shelter for hundreds of people displaced from their homes by the war.

The Gaza government, linked to Hamas, also denounced that Israel has intensified its bombings against the Gaza Strip in the last 48 hours, causing dozens of victims, days before a year of war, during which 42 000 Palestinians died. nearly 100,000 people were injured.

Around 200,000 Palestinians are estimated to remain in northern Gaza, after the army at the start of the war asked the Gazan population in that area to evacuate to the south of the Strip.
